Howdy!
I'm Blake Herrera - nice to meet you.
I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin,
majoring in Computer Science. I am currently working as a
software engineer for Casa Mechanical Services, creating a new
enterprise software product in React + Node/Express.
I have had the pleasure of working twice at Facebook (Meta) as a
software engineering intern. Additionally, I've also worked
under contract as a lead React.js developer for ScanData Systems
(now Transplace, an
Uber Freight subsidiary.)
One of my recent side projects was working for the UT Austin
Japanese Department as an Undergraduate Assistant. I created a
few browser-based educational games in the Defold game engine to
help boost student language proficiency (check out my latest one
here!).
I've always loved being a leader in my community. Having been class/student council president every year from the fourth grade all the way on up to my early high school graduation, I've learned a great deal about what makes a great team and how to get the most out of people. Serving as the two-time president of the Round Rock Independent School District Student Advisory Board (RRISD SAB) in 2017 and 2019, I've also been able to learn a great deal from others above me - working directly alongside Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores to shape policy across the school district.
Life is good. Hook 'em Horns, and God bless Texas!
